Despite the dismal end to last season and the general sense of gloom and doom about the future from your average Milwaukee Panther Basketball fan in recent months... there seems to be some flickers of a bright light on the horizon.
Jordan Lathon has transferred from UTEP and committed to Milwaukee. This was kind of stunning news to most fans following the goings-on of Milwaukee Hoops. Lathon was at one time a 3/4 star recruit and had high-majors recruiting him heavily in high school.
Lathon was originally recruited to Northwestern and was seen at the time as the Wildcats' PG of the future but there was a falling out before he enrolled and moved to Evanston and he so he enrolled in and moved to UTEP instead and has been productive there for the past couple of seasons against Conference USA foes. Apparently Lathon wasn't happy at UTEP and is coming north to be a Panther and part of what seems to be a puzzle coming together slowly but surely...
Baldwin (former NU assistant coach) must have maintained a connection and in any case.. Lathon, though he will be sitting out until the 2021-2022 season, has 2 years of eligibility left and is a huge recruiting coupe for a Milwaukee program in bad need of good news.
This is very good news. 1 year to watch Te'Jon finish a stellar UWM career and then Lathon can be the point man for 2 years starting in 2021.
DeAndre Gholston committed and is a Top 50 JUCO recruit for the Class of 2020.
Tafari Simms also committed and is a Top 100 JUCO recruit for the Class of 2020.
Should UWM fans excited for the future? I think so. 🙏
The Panthers are still holding out hope on another commit or two to make up for the loss of graduating Panthers (belated but very sincere thank you to Darius Roy, DeAndre Abram and Wil Sessoms- you Panthers were all awesome, all the time you were here)...
And some unfortunate but virtually inevitable departures (Harrison Henderson, Arturo Bingham and Tyler Behrendt have all left the program for varying reasons; 'best of luck to them in their new respective programs; once a Panther, always a Panther 💪).
A warm Milwaukee, Wisconsin welcome to all the new Panthers; do what ya can to start planning for the takeover of the Horizon League- it truly is yours for the taking.
Now here's to landing Foster Wonders and Patrick Jr. 😉
But first, we must return to the NCAA Tourney and no better time to start than the 2020-2021 season inside a weak Horizon League just begging to be lead by someone- anyone- who bears even a vague kind of resemblance to an established dominate league powerhouse like the WSU/CSU/Milwaukee/Butler programs of old...
Let's get back there; Te'Jon is at the helm writing his final chapter in the book of Panther Hoops lore. With the JUCO commits above who are immediately eligible... and Vin Baker Jr. and the other returning guys like Brown Jr., Wilbourn, Thomas, Allen, etc.- we have the firepower to do some damage.
go panthers

Lathon was recruited by over a dozen high majors before settling on UTEP
Lathon looks to lead the Panthers back to March Madness
Unexpected, but welcomed commitment

6'6" DeAndre Gholston comes to Milwaukee from Tallahassee, FL and is a physical F/G previously part of Kent State's rotation
Tafari Simms also committed and is a Top 100 JUCO recruit for the Class of 2020.
Tafari Simms is a 6'6" versatile big man whom the Panthers can use ASAP
