Milwaukee welcomes two new recruits in Atlanta-area point guard Josh Dixon (Milton, GA) and Australian combo guard Ned Renfree.
I missed this announcement earlier in the fall of this year just before the season but it is important to document and give Panther fans a future to be excited about, especially in light of the fact that, after this season, there will be some huge guard shoes to fill when all four of our most formidable backcourt talent in Kentrell Pullian, Erik Pratt, Themus Fulks, AJ McKee- all graduate after this season.
Josh Dixon has a bag of tricks bigger than Harry Houdini with excellent ball handling, court vision and shooting skills. Playing varsity all the way, the 6'1" point guard led his high school team to a state championship in his freshman year.
Being somewhat undersized will present an early challenge but it isn't anything that a lot of eating at Oakland Gryos, Jimmy John's, Pizza Shuttle, big healthy meals, protein-packed fare and weight training at the OHOW cannot take care of.
I fully expect Dixon to be a showtime, highlight reel of a player in the vein of Jordan Aaron. (though I also thought TJ Robinson was going to be that guy.. But alas... Josh is committed and the Horizon League will be his playground).
Ned Renfree is a top-notch shooter and defender who hails from Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. With the departure of KP and Pratt we will need to have some shooters stepping into the fold. Renfree has played a ton of AAU ball in Australia competing in several national tournaments.
In addition to his perimeter shooting, Renfree is known as a tough-nosed defender who refuses to be intimidated and will continue Milwaukee's misleading-but-proud tradition of being the "Villains of the Horizon". Renfree may well elevate to the point of living "rent-free" in the heads of our Horizon opponents and their fan bases.
With both of these two outstanding additions to the '25-'26 Milwaukee recruiting class, this season may serve as a launching pad to turn this Milwaukee program into a championship-level mid-major for many NCAA seasons to come.
